Biography:

In 1850 Amos owned a farm in Vermont, which was valued at $200; by 1860 the farm was worth $2,000 and his personal possessions were worth $3,490. By 1870 the value of the farm had grown to $4,000 and his personal possessions worth another $4,200.

In the 1870s he moved to McHenry County, Illinois with his wife and at least two sons, William Arthur and Erwin.

Family records claim that Martha was born in 1850, not 1857.
