Biography:

Frances grew up speaking Dutch with her parents and brother. She moved around a bit as a child, for a brief moment living in Minnesota with her family and grandfather, but her greatest memories were of her time in South Holland, Illinois. Her father was very religious and believed no work could be done on Sundays.

In 1930, at the age of 15, Frances eloped and moved to Woodstock, Illinois. Her husband later bought a hardware store in Sharon, Wisconsin, causing the family to move there. He later became the long-standing mayor of the town and Frances served as the secretary at the Sharon Elementary School for years.

Later in life Frances's mother, Gertrude, moved in with her and her husband; at another time her husband's uncle Dan moved in with them as well.
