Biography:

Sara was born in Vermont, but both of her parents were both in New Hampshire. Some sources claim her last names was "Ritubush" and she was born in 1816 in Lowell, Massachusetts, however all the census records and the History of McHenry County say otherwise.

It appears that she may have been a twin, since in Vermont, after marrying, she lived next to a "Lucy Ritterbush" of the same age. Lucy appears to have children with the last name "Adams", but no husband. The Adams lived in the same area, being listed just prior to the Dodges on the census and the Ritterbushes being listed just after the Dodges.

It is probably that Sarah and Lucy's father was William Ritterbush, who was 23 years older than them, listed on the same census record as a neighbor and who was born in New Hampshire. If this is the case, Sarah's siblings are probably Alonzo, who lived next door to Amos and Sarah in 1860, and Margaret. William was a show maker.

Family records claim that Martha was born in 1850, not 1857.
